Description

Dracula andreettae var. xanthina

Name: Dracula andreettae f. xanthina

Synonyms: Masdevallia andreettae Luer

Etymology: andreettae honors Padre Angel Andreetta, who collected numerous Ecuadorian orchids; xanthina refers to the yellowish color form.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate this color form in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 12–21°C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement. We keep the fine substrate constantly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: The xanthina form displays a particularly light, yellowish flower color. The pendant inflorescences can produce several large flowers in succession. An airy basket culture is particularly suitable.
