Dracula alcithoe

Name: Dracula alcithoe Luer & R.Escobar

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon”; alcithoe refers to Alcithoë from Greek mythology.

Origin/Distribution: The species is found in Colombia and Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: We grow Dracula alcithoe in cool to intermediate conditions at around 12–21°C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement. We keep the fine, airy substrate evenly moist.

Description and Notes: The species produces multi-flowered inflorescences, on which the unusual Dracula flowers appear one after another. A basket culture is beneficial if the inflorescences grow downwards. We avoid prolonged heat and dry roots.
