Name: Dichaea ancoraelabia

Etymology: The genus name Dichaea derives from a Greek root meaning "two-parted"; ancoraelabia refers to the characteristic anchor-shaped lip.

Origin/Distribution: Tropical America.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate this epiphytic species in intermediate to warm conditions at around 16–27 °C, with high humidity, diffuse light, and good air circulation. We keep the fine roots evenly slightly moist and well-aerated.

Description and Notes: The plant has no pronounced pseudobulbs. Its slender, often pendulous shoots bear distichously arranged leaves; the small flowers emerge singly from the leaf axils. The anchor-shaped lip is particularly characteristic. A mounted culture with some moss or a small, very airy substrate is well suited.
