Name: Dendrobium macrophyllum
Description & Notes: A robust epiphytic Dendrobium species from Southeast Asia and the western Pacific with distinctive pseudobulbs, large leaves, and striking inflorescences. The long-lasting flowers often have greenish to yellowish sepals and petals, as well as a contrasting lip. The species prefers a consistently warm, moist, and airy culture without a pronounced dry rest period.
Light: Bright to partial shade with plenty of filtered, indirect light. Avoid intense direct midday sun.
Temperature: Warm to temperate, ideally around 20–28 °C during the day and 16–21 °C at night.
Water & Humidity: Water thoroughly and regularly during active growth, allowing the substrate to dry out only slightly between waterings. Even after the shoots have matured, do not allow them to dry out completely for extended periods. A humidity of around 65–85% with very good air circulation is beneficial.
Substrate: Medium-coarse, airy bark-based orchid substrate with good drainage. A little sphagnum moss or coconut chips can help maintain even moisture levels.
