Name: Dendrobium Papuatu f. alba
Parents: Dendrobium mohlianum × Dendrobium cuthbertsonii f. alba
Registration: Dendrobium Papuatu was registered in the RHS International Orchid Register in 2000 by D. and M. Crawford; they are listed as both the registrants and originators.
Location/Culture: This primary miniature hybrid prefers cool to intermediate conditions. We recommend about 14–20 °C during the day and cooler nights, bright filtered light, high humidity, and constant gentle air movement. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive substrate works well. The root zone should remain consistently slightly moist without becoming waterlogged; a distinct dry rest period is not necessary.
Description and Notes: Dendrobium Papuatu combines the slender growth of Dendrobium mohlianum with the compact stature and large, long-lasting flowers of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii. The alba or white form exhibits greatly reduced floral pigmentation and offers a striking contrast to the green foliage. Cool nights, soft water, and regular, weak fertilizer applications support compact growth and reliable flowering.
