Name: Dendrobium Papuatu f. orange
Parents: Dendrobium mohlianum × Dendrobium cuthbertsonii f. orange
Registration: Dendrobium Papuatu was registered in 2000 by D. and M. Crawford in the RHS International Orchid Register; they are listed as both registrants and originators.
Location/Cultural conditions: This miniature primary hybrid prefers cool to intermediate conditions. We recommend approximately 14–20 °C during the day and cooler nights, bright filtered light, high humidity, and constant gentle air movement. A fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive substrate works well. The root zone should remain consistently slightly moist without being waterlogged; a distinct dry rest period is not necessary.
Description and notes: Dendrobium Papuatu combines the slender growth and warm tones of Dendrobium mohlianum with the compact stature and, relative to the plant, large, long-lasting flowers of Dendrobium cuthbertsonii. In this orange form, vibrant orange to red tones predominate. A distinct nocturnal temperature drop, soft water, and regular weak fertilizer applications encourage compact growth and good flower production.
