Name: Coelogyne viscosa Rchb.f.
Etymology: The genus name Coelogyne is derived from Greek word components meaning “hollow” and “female reproductive organ,” referring to the shape of the column. The Latin specific epithet viscosa means “sticky” or “viscous” and refers to a sticky feature of the plant or flower.
Origin/Distribution: South and Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in humid forests, often at montane elevations. We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Temperate to warm-temperate conditions of approximately 15–27 °C during the day and 10–19 °C at night are favorable. During active growth, the substrate should remain consistently slightly moist.
Description and Notes: Coelogyne viscosa forms pseudobulbs on a creeping rhizome and bears leathery leaves. The flowers appear on separate inflorescences and possess the lip structure characteristic of the genus. We cultivate the species in a loose, airy orchid substrate and water it regularly during growth, using soft water if possible. Once the new pseudobulbs have matured, watering can be slightly reduced without letting the plant dry out completely.
