Description

Coelogyne ventricosa

Name: Coelogyne ventricosa

Etymology: The genus name Coelogyne is derived from Greek and refers to the recessed stigma; ventricosa means “swollen” or “inflated”.

Origin/Distribution: Southeast Asia.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate the species intermediately at around 14–26 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation. During growth, we keep the airy substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This sympodial orchid produces pseudobulbs, folded leaves, and attractive flowers with a distinctly pronounced lip. After the pseudobulbs have matured, we reduce watering slightly without letting the plant dry out completely.
