Name: Coelogyne ovalis
Description & Notes: An epiphytic Coelogyne species with a creeping rhizome, pseudobulbs, and an elegant, trailing growth habit. The flowers appear on slender inflorescences and feature a lip with contrasting markings. Its creeping growth habit makes the plant particularly well suited to hanging baskets.
Light: Bright to partially shaded, with plenty of filtered, indirect light. Gentle morning or evening sun is fine; avoid intense midday sun.
Temperature: Intermediate, ideally around 17–25 °C during the day and 11–17 °C at night. A slight nighttime drop in temperature is beneficial.
Water & Humidity: Water regularly during active growth and keep the substrate evenly and slightly moist. After the pseudobulbs mature, water somewhat more sparingly, but do not impose a pronounced dry rest. Humidity of around 60–80% with good air movement is beneficial.
Substrate: A medium-grade, airy orchid mix made of bark with a little sphagnum or coconut chips. Because of its creeping rhizome, a hanging basket or a wide, well-drained container is particularly suitable.
