Name: Coelogyne fimbriata 'J.R'
Etymology: The genus name Coelogyne is derived from Greek word components meaning “hollow” and “female reproductive organ,” referring to the shape of the column. The Latin specific epithet fimbriata means “fringed” and describes the conspicuously fringed lip of the flower. 'J.R' designates the cultivated clone offered here.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to South and Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: Coelogyne fimbriata grows predominantly epiphytically or lithophytically in humid forests. We recommend bright, filtered light, good air circulation, and high humidity. Temperate to warm-temperate conditions of approximately 15–27 °C during the day and 10–19 °C at night are favorable. During active growth, we keep the plant consistently slightly moist.
Description and Notes: The species forms creeping rhizomes with pseudobulbs, each bearing two leaves. The fragrant, yellowish to greenish flowers have a strikingly marked, fringed lip. We cultivate this clone in a loose, airy orchid substrate and water regularly during growth using the softest water possible. Once shoot growth is complete, the plant can be kept slightly drier, provided the pseudobulbs are not allowed to shrivel significantly.
