Description

Coelogyne fimbriata

Name: Coelogyne fimbriata Lindl.

Etymology: The genus name Coelogyne is derived from Greek and refers to the deeply recessed stigma; fimbriata means “fringed” and describes the edge of the lip.

Origin/Distribution: Himalayan region, Southern China, and Southeast Asia.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate the species intermediately at about 13–26 °C, with bright, filtered light and good air movement. During the growth phase, we water regularly and keep the airy substrate slightly moist.

Description and notes: The species has a creeping growth habit with elongated pseudobulbs and produces yellowish to greenish flowers with a contrastingly marked, finely fringed lip. After the pseudobulbs have matured, we reduce watering somewhat.
