Name: Bulbophyllum makoyanum (Rchb.f.) Ridl.
Synonyms: Cirrhopetalum makoyanum Rchb.f.
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum refers to the single leaf on each pseudobulb; makoyanum honors the Belgian gardening family Makoy.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: We grow Bulbophyllum makoyanum in warm to intermediate conditions at around 18–27 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air movement. We keep the airy, slightly moisture-retentive medium evenly and slightly moist.
Description and Notes: The species is known for its striking flowers, arranged in a fan- to umbrella-like pattern. The slender sepals give the inflorescence a particularly elegant form. Because of its creeping growth habit, it is especially well suited to a wide pot, basket, or mounted culture.
