Epidendrum schillerianum, Rchb.f 1861
Etymology: schilleriana = Consul Gustav Wilhelm Schiller, 1803 - 1872, Hamburg merchant, industrialist, and plant enthusiast.
Origin: Brazil
Habitat: epiphytic in hardwood thickets on rock faces with a summer dry period, often near rivers at altitudes from sea level to 800 meters
Notes: Cattleya schilleriana can produce up to 5 large, honey-scented flowers. The more flowers, the smaller they are. The flower texture is waxy, and the blooming period can exceed 4 weeks. Cattleya schilleriana is particularly sensitive to too much water during the "rest phase" (dry season) after the growth has matured and before blooming, but it enjoys regular, light misting at dusk during this time.
Culture: Warm to intermediate at approximately 18–28 °C and very bright. Cultivate in coarse bark with excellent drainage; water thoroughly during growth and allow to dry well afterwards. Keep somewhat drier after the growth has matured.
