Name: Cattleya lueddemanniana Rchb.f.
Etymology: The genus name Cattleya commemorates the English plant enthusiast William Cattley; the specific epithet lueddemanniana honors someone by the name of Lüddemann.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Venezuela.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate Cattleya lueddemanniana in warm to intermediate conditions at approximately 18–28 °C, in a very bright location with good air circulation. During the growth period, we water generously and allow the coarse orchid substrate to dry out well afterwards.
Description and Notes: This large-flowered Cattleya develops robust pseudobulbs and striking pink to purple flowers with a contrasting lip. The flowers can be pleasantly fragrant. After the new shoot has matured, we slightly reduce watering.
