Name: Cattleya intermedia f. semialba
Etymology: The genus name Cattleya honors William Cattley; intermedia means “intermediate.” The term semialba describes a color form with pale sepals and petals and a distinctly colored lip.
Origin/Distribution: A horticulturally selected color form of a species from southeastern South America.
Location/Habitat: An epiphytic orchid of bright, airy locations. Cultivate in very bright conditions and ensure the roots dry out quickly. A coarse bark substrate is suitable. Water regularly during growth; keep slightly drier in winter when growth slows. Temperatures of about 15–28 °C are appropriate.
Description and Notes: The bifoliate pseudobulbs bear several firm-textured flowers on mature shoots. In the semialba form, the sepals and petals are white to very pale, while the lip displays a clearly defined purple to amethyst-colored area. Plenty of light and good air circulation promote compact growth and flowering.
