Description

Cattleya intermedia coerulea ‘Gigi’

Name: Cattleya intermedia f. coerulea ‘Gigi’

Origin/Distribution: Cultivated color selection of the southeastern Brazilian species Cattleya intermedia.

Location/Habitat: Grow in very bright, airy conditions. A coarse, fast-draining bark mix works well. Water regularly and apply a dilute fertilizer during growth; keep somewhat drier in winter. Temperatures of around 15–28 °C, with cooler nights, are favorable.

Description and Notes: ‘Gigi’ is a coerulea selection with silvery lavender sepals and petals and a lip marked in a more intense bluish violet. The plant produces two-leaved pseudobulbs and can bear several fragrant flowers on a single growth. Good air circulation helps protect the firm leaves and roots.
