Name: Cattleya guttata Lindl.
Etymology: The genus name Cattleya honors William Cattley; guttata means “spotted” and refers to the characteristic spotting on the flowers.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Brazil.
Location/Habitat: We grow Cattleya guttata in warm conditions at around 19–30°C, in very bright conditions and with strong air circulation. During active growth, it receives plenty of water and regular fertilization; after that, the coarse potting medium should dry out well.
Description and Notes: This large-growing bifoliate Cattleya develops long pseudobulbs and flower spikes with several waxy, conspicuously spotted flowers. The flowers typically show greenish to brownish base tones with dark spots and a contrasting lip. Plenty of light and warmth promote vigorous shoots and good flower production.
