Etymology: dolosus = deceptive, misleading
Origin: Brazil
Habitat: Lithophytic, growing on rocky outcrops in exposed locations in southern central Brazil near Sao Paulo.
Notes: Cattleya dolosa is generally treated as a natural hybrid of Cattleya walkeriana and Cattleya loddigesii. Bred progeny have not been able to confirm this assumption. The flowers, which can measure over 10cm, develop in late spring after a brief winter rest; the waxy flowers can bloom for >4 weeks and emit a light fragrance.
