Description

Cattleya C. G. Roebling (1895)

Name: Cattleya C. G. Roebling

Parents: Cattleya gaskelliana × Cattleya purpurata

Location/growing conditions: Grow in a very bright, airy location, but protect from intense midday sun. Coarse orchid bark in a pot with rapid drainage is suitable. Water regularly and fertilize lightly during new growth; after the pseudobulbs have matured, allow them to dry out more between waterings. Temperatures of approximately 16–27 °C with a nighttime cooling are proven to be effective.

Description and notes: This historic grex combines two large-flowered Cattleya species. Strong pseudobulbs, leathery leaves, and large, elegantly shaped flowers with a distinctive lip can be expected. Color and markings may vary in seedlings. High light levels and fully matured shoots promote stable flower bud development.
