Description

Cattleya Betsy Portilla

Name: Cattleya Betsy Portilla

Parents: Cattleya mendelii × Cattleya iricolor

Location/Growing Conditions: Grow in bright to very bright conditions with constant air movement. A coarse bark medium and a well-draining pot are important. Water regularly and fertilize lightly during new growth; allow to dry out more between waterings after the plant has matured. Approximately 17–27 °C with cooler nights are favorable.

Description and Notes: The cross combines the large, rounder flowers and strong lip color of Cattleya mendelii with the more slender flower structure and the often light green base color of Cattleya iricolor. Seedlings can vary in shape, shade, and pattern. Plenty of light and mature pseudobulbs promote flower bud formation.
