Name: Bulbophyllum roxburghii
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum is composed of Greek word components for "bulb" and "leaf," referring to the characteristic pseudobulbs, each with one leaf. The specific epithet roxburghii honors the Scottish botanist William Roxburgh.
Origin/Distribution: South and Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: This species grows epiphytically in humid forests. We recommend partial shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Warm-temperate conditions of approximately 16–28 °C during the day and 12–20 °C at night are favorable. The root system should receive regular moisture while remaining very well aerated.
Description and Notes: Bulbophyllum roxburghii has a creeping rhizome with pseudobulbs and leathery leaves. The flowers exhibit the complex structure and the hinged lip typical of many species in the genus. We cultivate the species in an open, airy orchid substrate or mounted, provided there is sufficiently high humidity. We water regularly with soft water whenever possible and avoid waterlogging.
