Name: Bulbophyllum rothschildianum (O'Brien) J.J.Sm.
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum refers to the single leaf on each pseudobulb; rothschildianum honors a member of the Rothschild family.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to the eastern Himalayas and adjacent regions of Asia.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate Bulbophyllum rothschildianum intermediatum at approximately 15–25 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation. We keep the airy, slightly moisture-retaining substrate evenly slightly moist during growth and do not allow the roots to dry out completely for extended periods.
Description and Notes: This spectacular species produces striking, umbrella-like arranged flowers with long, narrow segments in yellowish to reddish-purple tones. The creeping growth habit is well suited for wide trays, baskets, or a mounted culture.
