Name: Bulbophyllum nymphopolitanum
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum is composed of Greek word components for "bulb" and "leaf," referring to the pseudobulbs, each of which bears one leaf. The specific epithet nymphopolitanum refers to a place name, indicating the origin or discovery site of the species.
Origin/Distribution: Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in humid tropical to montane forests. We recommend semi-shaded to bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Warm-temperate conditions of approximately 16–28 °C during the day and 12–20 °C at night are favorable. The roots should receive regular moisture but remain airy.
Description and Notes: Bulbophyllum nymphopolitanum forms a creeping rhizome with pseudobulbs and leathery leaves. The unusually structured flowers exhibit the mobile lip characteristic of the genus. We cultivate the species in an open, very airy orchid substrate or mounted. We water regularly with the softest water possible and avoid both waterlogging and prolonged complete drying out.
