Name: Bulbophyllum morphologorum
Synonyms: Bulbophyllum dixonii
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum is composed of Greek components for "bulb" and "leaf," referring to the characteristic pseudobulbs, each with a single leaf. The specific epithet morphologorum refers to morphologists or morphology.
Origin/Distribution: Southeast Asia.
Habitat/Location: This species grows epiphytically in humid tropical to montane forests. We recommend semi-shaded to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and continuous air circulation. Warm-temperate conditions of approximately 16–28 °C during the day and 12–20 °C at night are favorable. The root system should remain consistently slightly moist and airy.
Description and notes: Bulbophyllum morphologorum forms a creeping rhizome with pseudobulbs and leathery leaves. The unusual flowers possess the complex structure typical of the genus and a mobile lip. We cultivate this species in an open, very airy orchid substrate or mounted. We use soft water whenever possible, keep the roots regularly moist, and avoid waterlogging.
