Name: Bulbophyllum loherianum
Synonym: Cirrhopetalum loherianum
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum combines the Greek words bolbos (“bulb”) and phyllon (“leaf”). The epithet loherianum honors the German botanist August Loher, who collected plants in the Philippines.
Origin/Distribution: Philippines.
Habitat: Epiphytic in humid forests. Suitable conditions include warm to intermediate temperatures of approximately 17–27 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air movement.
Description and notes: This small species grows creeping and forms ovoid pseudobulbs, each with a single upright leaf. The yellowish flowers appear in small, loose clusters. We grow the plant mounted with a little sphagnum moss or in fine, airy bark. The roots must not be allowed to dry out for extended periods; however, excess water must drain away quickly.
