Name: Bulbophyllum lasiochilum – yellow color form
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum is derived from Greek word components for “bulb” and “leaf”. The specific epithet lasiochilum literally means “with a hairy lip” and refers to the conspicuous hairs on the labellum. The trade name “flava” describes the yellow coloration of this form.
Origin/Distribution: South and Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in humid forests. We recommend semi-shaded to bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Warm-temperate conditions of approximately 16–28 °C during the day and 12–20 °C at night are favorable. The roots should receive regular moisture but remain very well ventilated.
Description and notes: This yellow color form of Bulbophyllum lasiochilum possesses the characteristic creeping growth habit of the genus, with pseudobulbs each bearing a single leaf. The small, strikingly shaped flowers exhibit a clearly hairy lip. We cultivate this species in a loose, airy substrate or mounted, with high humidity. We water regularly with the softest possible water and avoid prolonged complete drying out.
