Name: Bulbophyllum cephalophorum
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum combines the Greek words bolbos (“bulb”) and phyllon (“leaf”), referring to the pseudobulbs and their leaves. The epithet cephalophorum means “head-bearing” and refers to the densely clustered, head-like arrangement of the flowers.
Origin/Distribution: Southeast Asia.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic in humid forests at mid elevations, around 1,200 m. The species prefers cool to intermediate temperatures of approximately 15–23 °C, high humidity, filtered light, and good air circulation.
Description and Notes: Bulbophyllum cephalophorum is a compact miniature orchid with a creeping rhizome, small rounded pseudobulbs, and one leaf each. The pale flowers grow densely in small, head-like clusters. We grow it mounted or in a fine, airy, moisture-retentive medium. The roots are kept evenly slightly moist without sitting in standing water.
