Tribrachia purpurea, (D.Don) Lindl. 1826;
Etymology: William Carey (*1761 - †1834), English botanist and missionary in India.
Origin: Eastern Himalayas, Assam, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam
Habitat: epiphytic in evergreen lowland forests at altitudes of approx. 200m - 2000m.
Notes: Bulbophyllum careyanum grows climbing with long rhizomes, and is therefore often difficult to 'tame'. When grown in bright conditions in shallow pots, the internodes between the individual pseudobulbs remain very short, and the plant is much easier to accommodate.
