Name: Barbosella orbicularis
Etymology: The genus name Barbosella honors the Brazilian botanist João Barbosa Rodrigues. The Latin specific epithet orbicularis means “circular” or “round” and refers to the rounded shape of the leaves.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical America.
Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically, forming creeping mats on mossy branches and twigs. We recommend partial shade to bright, diffused light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Temperate to warm-temperate conditions of approximately 14–25°C during the day and 10–18°C at night are favorable. The fine roots should be kept evenly and lightly moist.
Description and Notes: Barbosella orbicularis is a very small, creeping botanical orchid with densely packed, rounded leaves and delicate flowers. Over time, attractive, carpet-like clumps develop. We prefer to grow it mounted on cork or a similar material with a small amount of moisture-retaining moss. We use as soft water as possible and do not allow the plant to dry out completely for extended periods.
