Name: Anguloa virginalis Linden ex B.S.Williams
Etymology: The genus name Anguloa honors Francisco de Angulo; virginalis means "maidenly" or "virgin-like" and refers to the pale appearance of the flowers.
Origin/Distribution: The species originates from the Andes of South America.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate Anguloa virginalis in cool to intermediate conditions at approximately 12–24 °C, with bright filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. During active growth, the plant requires ample water and regular fertilization.
Description and Notes: This imposing terrestrial orchid develops large pleated leaves, robust pseudobulbs, and waxy, tulip-shaped flowers. After the leaves drop, we reduce watering significantly and keep the dormant pseudobulbs only moist enough to prevent them from shriveling excessively.
