Name: Anguloa tognettiae Oakeley
Etymology: The genus name Anguloa honors Francisco de Angulo; the specific epithet tognettiae commemorates Vilma Tognetti of Venezuela.
Origin/Distribution: The species is known from Colombia and Venezuela.
Location/Habitat: We grow Anguloa tognettiae under intermediate conditions at around 15–25 °C, in bright to partially shaded conditions and with good air circulation. During vigorous leaf and pseudobulb growth, it needs plenty of water and nutrients; once the leaves die back, we reduce watering considerably.
Description and Notes: The so-called tulip orchid develops large pseudobulbs and strong, pleated leaves. Its large, waxy flowers are tulip-shaped, last a long time, and can have a pleasant fragrance. We use a humus-rich yet airy, well-draining potting mix.
