Name: Anguloa clowesii Lindl.
Etymology: The genus name Anguloa honors Francisco de Angulo; clowesii commemorates the Reverend John Clowes.
Origin/Distribution: The species is found in Colombia and Venezuela.
Location/Habitat: We grow Anguloa clowesii in cool to intermediate conditions at around 13–23 °C, in bright to semi-shaded light and with good air movement. During vigorous growth, the plant receives plenty of water and nutrients; after the leaves die back, we reduce watering.
Description and Notes: This tulip orchid develops large pseudobulbs, robust pleated leaves, and large, waxy yellow flowers. The individual flowers are long-lasting and may produce a pronounced fragrance that is perceived differently by different people. We use a humus-rich but airy, well-draining potting medium.
