Name: Aerides flabellata, Rolfe ex Downey 1925
Synonyms: Vanda flabellata, (Rolfe ex Downie) Christenson 1985
Etymology: flabellatus = fan-shaped
Origin: Thailand, Myanmar, China (Yunnan)
Habitat: epiphytic in evergreen and deciduous dry lowland tropical and subtropical forests at altitudes of 200m to 1700.
Notes: Aerides flabellata belongs to the vandaceous plants and should be cultivated in wood or a Vanda basket. Young plants can be propagated in substrate. In maturity, up to 15 flowers can bloom simultaneously on a single inflorescence, emitting a delicate and pleasant fragrance.
In vitro culture: You will receive a bottle with 4 young plants. The plants are usually already large enough to be potted. After opening, carefully remove the nutrient medium completely from the roots with lukewarm water and place the young plants in coarse, very airy bark or cultivate them in a small basket. During the first few weeks, we recommend high humidity, warm to intermediate conditions, and bright but protected light with good air circulation. Moisten the roots regularly and then aerate them well; only gradually introduce drier winter cultivation conditions once the plants are strong and established.
