Name: Aerangis mystacidii
Synonyms: Angraecum mystacidii
Description & Notes: A compact African Aerangis species with elegant white flowers and a long spur. Its strong fragrance, noticeable especially in the evening and at night, is particularly appealing. The species grows epiphytically and prefers an airy culture with consistent moisture, without the roots remaining constantly wet.
Light: Bright to partial shade with filtered, indirect light. Avoid intense direct midday sun.
Temperature: Temperate to warm, ideally around 18–26 °C during the day and 14–20 °C at night. A slight drop in temperature at night is beneficial.
Water & Humidity: During the growing season, water regularly with soft, mineral-poor water and allow the roots to dry out slightly between waterings. Water more sparingly in winter, but do not provide a pronounced dry rest. An air humidity of around 60–80% with good air circulation is beneficial.
Substrate: Very airy, fine to medium-coarse bark-based orchid substrate with good drainage. Alternatively, if air humidity is sufficiently high, a mounted culture is also suitable.
In vitro culture: You will receive a bottle containing 4 young plants. The plants are usually already large enough to be deflashed. After opening, carefully remove the nutrient medium completely from the fine roots using lukewarm water and plant the young plants in fine bark with some sphagnum moss. During the first few weeks, we recommend high humidity, warm conditions, and bright, sheltered light with gentle air circulation; afterwards, gradually acclimate them to normal Aerangis culture.
