Name: Acineta densa Lindl. & Paxton
Synonyms: Acineta gymnostele Schltr.
Etymology: The genus name Acineta derives from the Greek word for “immobile”; densa means “dense” and refers to the densely packed inflorescence.
Origin/Distribution: The species is distributed from Central America to northwestern South America.
Location/Habitat: We grow Acineta densa in cool to intermediate conditions at around 14–24 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation. While it is growing, we keep the airy substrate evenly and slightly moist.
Description and Notes: The long inflorescences, densely covered with waxy flowers, grow downward and can become quite impressive. For this reason, growing it in a basket or hanging pot is particularly suitable. The flowers may have a pleasant vanilla-like fragrance.
