Name: Masdevallia Anna Chai
Parents: Masdevallia veitchiana × Masdevallia norops
Registration: Registered by G. Staal in the RHS International Orchid Register on 8 April 2003; originator is R. Thomson.
Location/growing conditions: Based on both parents, we recommend cool to intermediate conditions of around 13–23 °C, with significantly cooler nights. Bright, filtered light, high humidity and a constant gentle air movement are important. The fine, airy medium should remain evenly lightly moist; the plant tolerates neither prolonged drying out nor standing wetness.
Description and notes: Masdevallia Anna Chai is a primary hybrid with strong orange to red flowers. The bright colour and impressive floral display come from Masdevallia veitchiana, while Masdevallia norops can contribute darker contrasts in the centre and a more compact form. As these may be seedling plants, variations in shade, markings and sepal length are possible. Soft water and consistent cultivation without a dry rest period are recommended.
