Description

Ulearum donburnsii ‘Silver Cloud’

Name: Ulearum donburnsii Croat & Feuerst. ‘Silver Cloud’

Etymology: The genus name Ulearum recalls the botanist Ernst Ule. The specific epithet donburnsii honors Donald Burns. ‘Silver Cloud’ refers to the silvery, cloud-like leaf patterning of this selection.

First described: In 2003 by Thomas B. Croat and H. Feuerstein.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.

Habitat: Tropical, humid lowland conditions. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 21–29 °C, with high humidity and bright to partial shade. The humus-rich, loose substrate should be kept evenly and slightly moist.

Description and notes: Ulearum donburnsii grows from an underground rhizome. ‘Silver Cloud’ is distinguished by attractive silvery, cloud-like markings on its leaves.
