Etymology: The genus Restrepia commemorates José Restrepo, a promoter of the natural sciences in Colombia. The specific epithet escobariana honors the Colombian botanist and orchid specialist Rodrigo Escobar.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia.
Habitat: An epiphytic cloud-forest orchid from higher elevations. In cultivation, it prefers cool to intermediate temperatures of about 12–22 °C, high humidity, gentle air movement, and shaded to moderately bright light.
Description and notes: Restrepia escobariana is a compact species with striking, intensely marked flowers in proportion to the plant. Mature growths can produce several successive inflorescences. It is suited to mount culture or a small pot with a fine, airy, moisture-retentive medium. Keep evenly moist with soft water and do not allow it to dry out or become waterlogged.
