Description

Porroglossum lycinum

Name: Porroglossum lycinum Luer

Etymology: The genus name Porroglossum refers to the characteristic mobile lip of the genus. The epithet lycinum comes from Greek and means "wolf-like" in a figurative sense.

First description: The species was described in 1980 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Origin / Habitat: Northern Peru, as an epiphytic miniature orchid in moist tropical montane forests.

Description & Care: Small, compactly growing orchid with single leathery leaves and delicate inflorescences. Characteristic of Porroglossum is the mobile lip, which can be triggered by touch. We cultivate it in shaded to bright indirect light, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist. We keep it cool, at around 12–20 °C.
