Description

Polystachya clareae (5 cm pot)

Name: Polystachya clareae Hermans

Etymology: The genus name Polystachya roughly means “many spikes”; clareae honors Clare Hermans.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Madagascar.

Location/Habitat: We grow Polystachya clareae under intermediate conditions at around 16–25 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air movement. During active growth, we keep the fine, airy substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This compact orchid produces attractive orange flowers and, thanks to its small size, is very well suited to smaller collections and display cases. The substrate may dry out slightly between waterings, but should not be allowed to dry out completely.
