Name: Phragmipedium Super Besseae

Parents: Phragmipedium Wössner Rosenglanz × Phragmipedium besseae

Registration: Grex registered in the RHS International Orchid Register; registered by Ecuagenera in 2023.

Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium refers to the characteristic shoe-shaped lip and inner septum. The name Super Besseae highlights the strong influence of P. besseae, a species particularly known for its bright red to orange-red flowers.

Location/Growing Conditions: We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation. Intermediate conditions of approximately 15–25 °C during the day and 11–18 °C at night are favorable. The root system should be kept evenly moist in an airy, structurally stable substrate.

Description and Notes: Due to the reintroduction of P. besseae, this hybrid is expected to exhibit bold, warm red, orange, and pink tones, as well as a relatively compact growth habit. Phragmipedium Wössner Rosenglanz also brings in the influence of P. kovachii and P. caricinum. Seedlings are individual and may vary in flower shape and color intensity. We avoid allowing them to dry out completely and fertilize lightly and regularly during the growing season.
