Name: Phragmipedium schlimii (Linden ex Rchb.f.) Rolfe
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium is derived from phragma ("partition, dividing wall") and pedion ("slipper"). The epithet schlimii honors Louis Schlim, the discoverer of the species.
Original description: The species was described in 1854 by Linden and Reichenbach f. as Selenipedium schlimii and transferred to the genus Phragmipedium by Rolfe in 1896.
Origin / Habitat: Colombia to northwestern Ecuador, at about 1200–2500 m. It grows terrestrially or lithophytically on damp slopes, on rocks, and near streams and rivers.
Description & Notes: Medium-sized lady's slipper orchid with a short stem, narrow leaves, and branched inflorescences with small, pink-and-white flowers that appear sequentially. We keep it consistently moist at all times, with good air circulation and rather partial, indirect light. We cultivate it at about 15–25 °C.
