Name: Phragmipedium Hanne Popow ‘dalessandroi’ Line
Parents: Phragmipedium besseae × Phragmipedium schlimii
Registration: Phragmipedium Hanne Popow was registered with the RHS in 1991. The designation ‘dalessandroi’ Line identifies a breeding line in this product whose Phragmipedium besseae parent comes from material with a dalessandroi background.
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium derives from the Greek phragma (“partition”) and pedilon (“slipper”). Hanne Popow is the registered grex name.
Location/Growing Conditions: We grow this hybrid in bright to lightly shaded conditions with high humidity, good air movement, and temperatures of around 15–24 °C. We keep the fine, airy yet moisture-retentive medium evenly moist and do not let it dry out completely. Fresh, oxygen-rich water and good drainage are particularly important.
Description and Notes: Phragmipedium Hanne Popow is a compact to medium-sized primary hybrid. Its flowers typically combine the deep pink to reddish hues of the Phragmipedium besseae line with the softer form and coloring of Phragmipedium schlimii. Flower color, form, and growth habit may vary among seedlings from this particular line.
