Name: Phragmipedium Haley Decker
Parents: Phragmipedium kovachii × Phragmipedium Saint Ouen
Registration: Registered in the RHS International Orchid Register on March 7, 2007, by Piping Rock Orchids; A. Manrique is listed as the breeder.
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium is derived from the Greek words “phragma,” meaning partition, and “pedilon,” meaning slipper, and refers to the slipper-shaped flower structure.
Location/Growing Conditions: Bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air circulation are ideal. The growing medium should be coarse and airy while maintaining consistent root moisture. We recommend intermediate temperatures of approximately 16–26 °C and, if possible, cooler nights; avoid excessive heat and allowing the medium to dry out completely.
Description and Notes: Phragmipedium Haley Decker combines the size and color potential of Phragmipedium kovachii with the finer form and floriferousness of Phragmipedium Saint Ouen. Expect striking pink to purple flowers with broad segments and a prominent pouch. As this is a seedling cross, variations in flower size, color intensity, and patterning are natural.
