Name: Phragmipedium Eugene Banziger
Parents: Phragmipedium Hanne Popow × Phragmipedium Fritz Schomburg
Registration: Registered by Ecuagenera in the RHS International Orchid Register on September 15, 2021; Ecuagenera is also listed as the breeder.
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium derives from the Greek words “phragma,” meaning partition, and “pedilon,” meaning slipper, and describes the characteristic slipper-shaped flower.
Growing conditions: A bright to partially shaded location without intense midday sun, high humidity, and good air circulation are ideal. Keep the airy, slightly moisture-retentive potting mix evenly moist. We recommend intermediate temperatures of around 16–26 °C and a slight nighttime drop; the roots should not be allowed to dry out completely.
Description and notes: This complex hybrid combines the more compact, richly colored heritage of Phragmipedium Hanne Popow with the large-flowered potential of Phragmipedium Fritz Schomburg. Expect striking pink to purple flowers with a prominent pouch and well-balanced segments. Form, size, and color intensity may vary among seedlings.
