Name: Phragmipedium Charlie Hanson
Parents: Phragmipedium richteri × Phragmipedium fischeri
Registration: Registered by Fox Valley in the RHS International Orchid Register on September 27, 2002; T. Kalina is listed as the breeder.
Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium derives from the Greek words “phragma,” meaning partition, and “pedilon,” meaning slipper, and refers to the slipper-shaped lip.
Location/Growing conditions: A bright to partially shaded spot without direct midday sun, high humidity, and steady, gentle air movement are ideal. The fine- to medium-grade, airy potting medium should be kept evenly moist. We recommend intermediate temperatures of approximately 15–25 °C; prolonged dry periods should be avoided.
Description and notes: This primary hybrid combines the narrow-leaved, compact growth habit of Phragmipedium richteri with the delicate pink flowers of Phragmipedium fischeri. Expect elegant, fairly compact plants with pink to rosy-purple flowers and a finely marked slipper. Seedlings vary in color intensity and form.
