Phragmipedium Ruby Slippers

Name: Phragmipedium Ruby Slippers

Etymology: The genus name Phragmipedium is derived from the Greek phragma ("partition, screen") and pedion ("shoe"). The grex name Ruby Slippers ("Ruby Shoes") describes the striking red flower color.

Registration: The primary hybrid was registered in 1992.

Origin / Breeding: Cross between Phragmipedium caudatum × Phragmipedium besseae.

Description & Care: Primary hybrid with long, elegantly developed flower segments from P. caudatum and a rich red flower color from P. besseae. We keep them evenly moist, with good air circulation and bright, indirect light. The substrate should not dry out completely. We cultivate them at approximately 15–29 °C.
