Description

Philodendron sparreorum

Name: Philodendron sparreorum Croat

Etymology: The genus name Philodendron comes from Greek and means “tree-loving,” aptly describing the climbing habit of many species. The epithet sparreorum honors the Sparre family.

First description: The species was described by Thomas B. Croat.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, in humid tropical forests. It grows as a climber and can ascend trees.

Description & Notes: A climbing philodendron with elongated to heart-shaped leaves and sturdy stems. We grow it in bright to partially shaded conditions, warm temperatures, high humidity, and with good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly slightly moist and avoid waterlogging. We keep it at around 18–30 °C.
