Name: Philodendron giganteum Schott ‘Blizzard’
Etymology: The specific epithet giganteum means “giant” and refers to the impressive size of mature plants. ‘Blizzard’ refers to the dense light mottling of the leaves.
Origin/Distribution: The species is found in parts of tropical South America and the Caribbean; ‘Blizzard’ is a variegated cultivar.
Location/Habitat: Philodendron giganteum grows terrestrially to hemi-epiphytically in warm, humid tropical forests. We recommend approximately 20–29 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright indirect light.
Description and Notes: The species grows vigorously and densely with short internodes and develops very large, heart-shaped leaves. In ‘Blizzard’, mature leaves are irregularly mottled white to cream; the intensity and distribution of the variegation may vary. A large pot with coarse, well-draining aroid substrate and ample space supports vigorous growth. Protect the light-colored parts of the leaves from direct midday sun.
