Philodendron brandtianum XS (5.5cm pot)

Name: Philodendron brandtianum K.Krause

Etymology: The specific epithet brandtianum honors Johann Friedrich von Brandt, a 19th-century German naturalist.

Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America.

Location/Habitat: Climbing to hemiepiphytic in warm, humid tropical forests. We cultivate the young plants in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the coarse, airy aroid substrate evenly lightly moist.

Description and Notes: Philodendron brandtianum already shows an attractive silver-gray pattern on a green background as a young plant. In plants in the 5.5 cm pot, the leaves are still small; with increasing maturity, larger leaf blades and a distinct climbing growth develop. A climbing aid can later promote leaf size.
